Walk Beside Me Learning
How does it Work?
An Overview The Walk Beside Me Learning curriculum was established to provide a spiritually and academically whole curriculum to families and schools who hold a belief in the gospel and teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our program provides everything you need to effectively educate your child through 8/9 grade. Our lessons are user-friendly and written so that you can instruct several ages and abilities at once. Coursework in the Student Manual is written to reinforce your instruction at each level, providing challenging academic growth for each child.
This Curriculum is built on a scriptural foundation of history (HIS Story). Secular events are integrated so that the child can see for himself, the Savior’s divine mission to “bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man,” (Moses 1:39). The program presents history on a four year rotation basis. Every child in the family studies the same time period each year. Over four years, each student will have covered all of the Standard Works and all periods of World and American History. Volumes do not need to be taught in chronological order. The four year rotation is as follows:
-
Volume 1: Pre-Earth Life to 5 BC
-
Volume 2: 5 BC to 1500 AD
-
Volume 3: 1500 to 1870 AD
-
Volume 4: 1870 to Modern Day
If your children are fortunate to have supportive grandparents nearby, invite them to join you in your child’s education. Grandparents can read to your children, listen to your children read, assist with assignments, teach portions of lessons, conduct science experiments, etc. Think outside the box. You don’t necessarily have to do it all. This can turn out to be a good relationship building time. And if you have parents who are not completely onboard with your choice to educate at home, seeing what diverse things you are teaching will likely change their minds.
So, what’s in the box?
Once you have placed your order, you will receive .pdf files that can be downloaded to your computer. There are eight workbooks per grade level, equaling 160 lessons. You can print these files on letter size sheets. You can have each book bound at an office supply store or print shop. This will help your child stay organized and will help your family be portable. You can also load them onto an Android or iPad tablet. You’ll want to provide a tablet pencil so that your child can write directly onto the tablet, to be reviewed later.
When you order printed curriculum, we will ship your books to you via Media Mail, unless you choose otherwise at checkout.
The curriculum is written in four week segments. Unless you are just starting out on your homeschool journey, you probably already have a rhythm that your family follows. This is a five day program but you can certainly modify it to meet your schedule. There are 5 to 6 subjects covered every day. This is beneficial for your child who struggles to finish. There is a set amount of pages and it’s clear for your child to see when he or she has completed the work for the day.
If you have questions or suggestions, please ask us or share your ideas with our group. In our posts, We share homeschool hacks that work for us. Check that area often.
